NORDIC WALKING IN VIÐEY - THE WEEKLY TUESDAY WALK JULY 6TH

Nordic walkingThis weeks Tuesday walk on July 6th will be led by Nordic walking teacher Guðný Aradóttir. Guðný's courses in Nordic walking have become very popular and more and more people make this sport an inseperable part of their lifestyle.
Nordic walking is defined as walking with specially designed poles. It evolved from an off-season ski-training activity known as ski walking, hill bounding or ski striding to become a way of exercising with poles year-round.
Nordic walking combines simplicity and accessibility of walking with simultaneous core and upper body conditioning similar to Nordic skiing. The result is a full-body walking workout that can burn significantly more calories without a change in perceived exertion or having to walk faster, due to the incorporation of many large core and other upper-body muscles which comprise more than 90% of the body's total muscle mass and do work against resistance with each stride. The walk starts by Viðey church at 19:30.

This is an excellent opportunity to enjoy the wonderful nature in Viðey. Viðeyjarstofa Café is open Thuesday nigths, all other days of the week it closes at 17:00. This makes Tuesdays perfect for visiting Viðey Island, enjoy a lovely light meal and have a walk around the island in the midnight sun. Extra boat trips on Tuesdays are at 18:15 and 19:15 and the boat goes back at around 22:00.
Prices for the boat are isk.1000.- for adults, isk.500 for children 6-18 and its free of charge for the youngest ones.
