Social Advisory Services

Most people encounter some kind of difficulties, whether they be large or small, at some point during their lives. The professional staff of the Division of Welfare provide advisory services for individuals and families. The service endeavours to meet the needs of those who require assistance. 

The aim of the social advisory services is, on the one hand, to provide information and advice about social entitlements and, on the other hand, to provide support in cases of social or personal problems.

The consultants at the service centres provide information about entitlements/services, consultation and support. Consultants may also provide information about other service options, as well as directing people to the resources that are suitable for each case.
Social advisory services include consultation for cases of:
• Unemployment
• Illness
• Housing problems
• Financial problems
• Disabilities
• Senior citizens
• Immigration issues
• Issues regarding children and youngsters
• Family problems
• Substance abuse

 All the residents of Reykjavík who have reached 18 years of age, and who request social advisory services, can seek information about entitlements and services. The emphasis is placed on supporting people in looking for self-help options. Support provision ceases when it has been established that there is no longer any need for it.
