Bonfire on New Year’s Eve

Bonfire on New Year’s Eve in Reykjavik will be held at ten locations in the Reykjavik area and will start at 8.30pm except in Úlfarsfell that will start at 2.30pm.

The locations where the bonfires will be held are the same as last year‘s, but the bonfire in Laugardalur will be relocated for safety reasons. Citizens are encouraged to come and enjoy this special tradition but kindly asked to leave all fireworks at home.

Collecting firewood for the bonfires will start on Thursday December 27th and will last until noon on the 31st or when the bonfires are big enough.

People can put clean wood on the bonfire but plastic, rubber and other material is not allowed.

Bonfires will be at the following locations:

  1. Ægisíða – large bonfire
  2. Suðurhlíð - below Fossvogs cemetery, small bonfire
  3. Gufunes – large bonfire
  4. Geirsnef – large bonfire
  5. Suðurfell – small bonfire
  6. Kléberg at Kjalarnes – small bonfire
  7. Skerjafjörður – small bonfire
  8. West of Laugarásvegur – small bonfire
  9. Fylkis bonfire, near Rauðavatn – large bonfire
  10. Úlfarsfell, above Lambhagaveg – small bonfire at 2.30pm.
