About Austurborg
Austurborg Preschool opened on July 1, 1974 at Háaleitisbraut. The preschool has a great outdoor area for games and playtime with outdoor toys like bikes and snow racers. The preschool is centrally located, close to the city's main transport arteries, making it easy to travel around the city with the children. The preschool has four groups with space for 94 children, ranging from 18 months to 6 years old. There are 30 employees. The younger children go to Putaland (Lilliput Land) and Bangsaland (Teddy Bear Land), and the older children go to Ólatagarður (Racket Room) and Kattholt (Kitty Hillock).

Philosophy

The preschool operates in accordance with the Reggio Emilia philosophy, where creative work is emphasized and the Play to Learn teaching method is used.
All academic subjects are taught to children between the ages of 2 and 10 through organized and engaging games, activities, and hands-on experiences.
A focus is placed on learning through discovery, utilizing creative endeavors such as music, visual art, theatrical performance, and imaginative thinking.

We are all in this together, and as the proverb goes it takes a village to raise a child.

Support services
Reykjavík City employs a team of professionals who provide school support services for preschools and primary schools, counseling on child care and recreational activities, welfare services, and other specialized counseling and services needed to help all children actively participate in Reykjavík City's school and recreational activities and make their dreams come true.
Child prosperity
The new Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties.
Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a prosperity liaison in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The prosperity liaison offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services.
Children, young people, and guardians can reach the school prosperity liaison to request integrated services.
