Fall break
Reykjavík primary schools’ fall break runs Oct. 22-26, offering a wide range of activities for children and families across the city. Museums, libraries and other venues offer creative workshops, scavenger hunts, crafts, games and family events. Adults accompanying children receive free admission to City museums during fall break.

Christmas City Event Fund 2026 – applications welcome
Preparations for the Christmas season are getting underway, and applications are now open for the Christmas City Event Fund.
The project aims to enhance daily life and support businesses, shops, restaurants and other services in the area. The events enliven the city center for residents and visitors to enjoy during Advent. Those planning events in December can apply for support up to 400,000 krónur.
Main conditions for support:
- The project must take place in the city center.
- The project should bring life to the city and highlight the diversity of the city center
- The project must take place Dec. 1-23.
- Many should benefit, appeal to all ages and be free for participants.
- Support is not given for various Christmas markets or marketing of individual businesses.
The application deadline is Nov. 8, 2026.
