About the preschool
Lyngheimar Preschool opened on October 31, 1998 and is in Grafarvogur. It is divided into four groups named after old place names in Grafarvogur. They are Knútskot, Guddmói, Klapparvör, and Fjósaklettar.

Philosophy
The values of Lyngheimar are respect, care, and consideration
Lyngheimar's work is based on an ideology named after the city of Reggio Emilia. The main idea the preschool uses from this approach is to respect children's abilities and allowing them to gain knowledge and experience in their own way and for the to use emotions, movement, visual perception, play, and creativity in the learning process. Children should be allowed to develop their senses through imagination and creativity. Emphasis is placed on creative work in all arts and research projects.

We are all in this together, and as the proverb goes it takes a village to raise a child. Reykjavík City preschools make targeted efforts to consult with and increase parent involvement in early childhood education.
All Reykjavík City preschools have parent associations and parent councils.
Support services
Reykjavík City employs a team of professionals who provide school support services for preschools and primary schools, counseling on child care and recreational activities, welfare services, and other specialized counseling and services needed to help all children actively participate in Reykjavík City's school and recreational activities and make their dreams come true.
Child prosperity
The new Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties. Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a prosperity liaison in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The prosperity liaison offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services. Children, young people, and guardians can reach the school prosperity liaison to request integrated services.
