About the preschool
Tjörn Preschool is a joint operation of two preschools, Tjarnarborg and Öldukot. The two preschools merged in 2009 and employ approximately 25 people. The preschool has 70 children, divided into four groups, with two groups in each building. In Tjarnarborg, the groups are named Lækur and Tjörn, while in Öldukot, the groups are named Miðhús and Melhús.
Preschool director: Hulda Ásgeirsdóttir
The assistant preschool directors are María Worms Hjartardóttir and Helga Ingimarsdóttir.
The special education director is Júlía Hafþórsdóttir.
The cooks are Hafþór Ólafsson and Sawai Wongphoothorn.

Philosophy
The values of Tjörn are initiative, friendship, and joy
Tjörn Preschool is based on the ideology of the Reggio Emilia schools. What sets Reggio schools apart is a strong belief in children's abilities and the idea that children have the ability and desire to participate in and shape the work that takes place in the school. This aligns well with Reykjavík's new Education Policy, which views the child as an active participant. In light of this, Tjörn placed emphasis on having professional and critical discussions to shape its school work during the merger of the two preschools. This helped create a common vision and attitude towards school policy, which is constantly evolving and being revised, while also deepening the school's ideology.

Parent cooperation
We are all in this together, and as the proverb goes it takes a village to raise a child. Reykjavík City preschools make targeted efforts to consult with and increase parent involvement in early childhood education.
All Reykjavík City preschools have parent associations and parent councils.
Support services
Reykjavík City employs a team of professionals who provide school support services for preschools and primary schools, counseling on child care and recreational activities, welfare services, and other specialized counseling and services needed to help all children actively participate in Reykjavík City's school and recreational activities and make their dreams come true.
Child prosperity
The new Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties.
Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a prosperity liaison in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The prosperity liaison offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services.
Children, young people, and guardians can reach the school prosperity liaison to request integrated services.
